Report Request Form Work Order System Alumni & Development Glossary Office of Development Alumni Affairs Assistant Treasurer
|
Introduction Maintaining the system that supports the user community is an essential aspect of this function, allowing the cultivation of financial support from AU alumni and friends. To continue to improve the effectiveness of the system and its use, IMS information technology specialists stay abreast of the industry through training, conferences, and publications. The programmers develop new application subsystems in conjunction with user departments and the IMS project analysis personnel. Much of their work, however, centers upon producing a myriad of reports that are required for the operations of Development and Alumni Affairs. They also generate labels, mailers, newsletters, and various files; maintain automated financial receipts and accompanying lists; and assist users of the system with computer-related challenges. Because of industry regulations, the desire to continue to enhance functionality, and the need for new capabilities, the vendor for the Ascend product, Agilon, Inc., provides new releases of the system on a periodic basis. The application programmers work closely with the vendor to install, test, and implement these releases. Careful planning is required to put the changes in the production environment without incident, a fact that is underscored by the large amount of custom code that exists in the Auburn University version of this product. The programmers play a key part in the success of the upgrade installations. Application Support Staff
