Introduction
The project analysts serve two functions: they act as liaisons between the user community and the IMS application programming staff, and they oversee the project work for certain key initiatives. Drawing upon expertise gained through industry experience, the analysts interface with users to understand the requirements for system changes in support of departmental needs; provide suggestions, feedback, and guidance, when appropriate, on system capabilities and optimal usage; and generate technical documents. Some of their work involves projects limited in scope, but their focus is primarily on efforts that entail more encompassing modifications. In such cases, they serve as project managers for such changes, accountable for coordinating the programming as well as the technical support in driving the work to completion. They also assist with the quality assurance (QA) function and, in conjunction with the programmers, test the changes thoroughly to ensure that there are no errors in the code. Concluding the process, the project analysts work with the applications team and with users to verify the results of changes to the production environment to ensure that the requirements have been met.

The project analysis personnel are also responsible for certain end-user training. They teach classes on the Ascend application system and on many of the Microsoft software tools. Introductory, intermediate, and advanced classes are offered on an as-needed basis for products, such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access. Training may be one-on-one or classroom instruction, depending on the topic, the level of the class, and the students.
